Mowafi said during his program “My Lord, Increase My Knowledge,” broadcast on Sada El Balad channel, that vitamin B12 is only found in foods that contain animal protein.

The professor of critical care medicine added that all plant foods cannot be relied upon to provide the body with the recommended daily dose of vitamin B12.

He explained that nuts, vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and legumes lack vitamin B12, which is abundant in red meat, poultry, dairy products, fish, and eggs.

He stressed the need for a person to have a healthy stomach, so that his body can absorb and benefit from vitamin B12 from animal products.

Mowafy concluded his speech by pointing out that the vitamin B12 that the body absorbs is stored in the liver, stressing that it is sufficient for a person to last two years.
