The importance of vaccination in pets

Last April 20 was World Animal Vaccination Day and to highlight the importance of vaccination in our pets, we’re telling you which diseases can be prevented, according to MSD Animal Health in Mexico.

Dogs:

1. Distemper: Caused by a virus that attacks the respiratory, gastrointestinal and nervous systems of dogs. It is contagious and can be fatal or permanently damage the nervous system.

2. Canine parvovirus: Infection due to a virus, it is serious, highly contagious and mainly affects the gastrointestinal tract.

3. Rabies: A viral disease that infects the central nervous system, can be fatal and spreads quickly through a bite or scratch. It is a zoonosis, that is to say, it is transmitted from animals to humans.

4. Leptospirosis: It is caused by a bacterium called Leptospira, transmitted mainly by rodents, and can cause kidney or liver failure in our pet. It is a zoonosis.

5. Kennel Cough: Also known as Canine Infectious Respiratory Complex, this is a highly contagious disease caused by the Parainfluenza virus and/or bacteria such as Bordetella.

Chats :

1. Rhinotracheitis: A disease that affects the upper respiratory tract and the eyes, is caused by the feline herpes virus (FHV).

2. Panleukopenia: A viral disease caused by feline parvovirus, infects and kills rapidly dividing and growing cells, such as those found in the bone marrow and intestines.

3. Feline calicivirus: Very contagious and dangerous virus in cats with weakened immune systems. It affects the upper respiratory tract and causes sneezing, runny nose, constant watery eyes, fever, etc.

4. Rabies: Highly contagious and deadly virus. Cats that contract the disease usually die after a clinical course of 3 to 4 days. It is a zoonosis.

5. Feline Leukemia: It is a very contagious retrovirus that lowers the defenses of cats, can cause tumors, various blood disorders and is fatal.
