The Importance of Vaccination and Updated Schedule: Ministry of Public Health, Paraguay

From the Ministry of Public Health, through the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI), families are reminded of the importance of boys and girls having their vaccination schedules up to date. Vaccines provide protection against various diseases and help prevent complications and even deaths.

In the country, article 6 of Law No. 4621/2015 “National Vaccination” establishes that all minors must be immunized and that parents, representatives, guardians or those in charge of custody of a minor will be responsible for the fulfillment of this obligation.

Paraguay has one of the best and most complete vaccination schemes in the region, with doses available free of charge to the population in vaccination centers in all health regions, to deal with more than 20 diseases.

The regular EPI vaccination schedule contemplates a series of necessary vaccinations from an early age and which include all age groups and conditions: newborns, children, adolescents, adults, the elderly, the chronically ill, pregnant women and health personnel. .

It is extremely important to control the vaccination book of boys and girls, and keep them updated with the corresponding doses. In the event of loss of your children’s notebook, also go to the vaccination center so that they can be immunized.

Vaccines of the regular scheme, according to age and condition:

– 15 months: chickenpox vaccine: serious pictures and complications from chickenpox. Hepatitis A vaccine: serious pictures and complications due to hepatitis A.

– 18 months: Hexavalent vaccine (diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, pertussis, hepatitis B, poliomyelitis (inactivated), Haemophilus influenzae B). MMR vaccine: measles, mumps, rubella.

– 4 years: IPV vaccine: poliomyelitis. DPT vaccine: diphtheria, pertussis or whooping cough, tetanus.

– 5 years: vaccine against chickenpox.

– Adolescents (9 to 14 years): HPV vaccine: Human papillomavirus (only women). Tdpa vaccine: diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough or whooping cough.
