The people who hold the position of SLO act as a kind of intermediary between the management of the league units and the football supporters. In short, their task is to listen to the fans and convey their opinions or suggestions to individual clubs, as well as communicate decisions in the opposite guard. The history of the SLO role dates back to the 1990s, when it was created in Germany, and now its existence is mired in the licensing requirements of clubs participating in UEFA competitions.
The mentioned SLO 2023 Project should increase the weight of the position of the same name, and in the future even achieve its professionalization using funds directly from the LFA budget. Furthermore, he should educate intermediaries between fans and clubs with the help of regular trainings or internships and prospectively incorporate the role of SLO into domestic football statutes.
“Cultivating the environment in the stadiums is a long-term strategic priority of the LFA,” mentioned the chairman of the association, Dušan Svoboda. “The SLO 2023 project proves that we mean our words seriously. The influence of the SLO in the stadiums is already visible and I believe that increasing the importance and professionalization of this role can move the conditions in the stadiums and the satisfaction of the fans significantly forward,” he hopes.
LFA intends to regularly consult the entire process with individual SLOs. For this, he can also use the working group, in which people from the largest Czech clubs participate in this role. In an effort to increase the importance of the role of SLO, an award was added to the Lukáš Přibyl Award, where league units are awarded every season for work with fans and projects in the field of marketing, for those clubs that take best care of visiting fans.
Similar activities have a clear goal, which is to attract soccer fans to the stadiums, which is more than decently successful in the ongoing season of the Fortuna League. The provisional average attendance after eight rounds is the second highest in the history of the independent Czech league, and the SLO 2023 Project should help to continue the established trend.
