Structure of the Human Eye
The human eye consists of 3 main layers, namely the outer, middle and inner layers. The outer layer is the cornea which is a protective membrane for the eye in a curved shape. The middle layer consists of the iris, eye lens and eye muscles. The inner layer consists of the retina, optic nerve and pars optica.
Functions of the Human Eye
The main function of the eye is to see and gather visual information from the surrounding environment. The process of seeing begins with light entering through the cornea and lens of the eye which will be spread to the retina. The reflected light is then captured by the photoreceptor cells in the retina. This information is then sent through the optic nerve to the brain, where it is processed and translated into the state we see.
Apart from that, the eyes also have several other functions such as maintaining body balance, helping to focus on the object being seen, responding to light, and identifying objects in pictures or photographs.
Eye Care
Good eye care is very important to maintain eye health. Some things you can do to keep your eyes healthy include:
1. Diligently check your eyes regularly to an eye specialist
2. Avoid using gadgets or computer screens too often
3. Avoid smoking habits
4. Eat healthy foods, such as green vegetables, fish, and fruits that contain vitamin A and omega-3
5. Routinely do sports to maintain blood sugar levels and blood pressure
