The diplomatic presence of the ambassador in Moscow is important for promoting the interests of the Czech Republic in Russia. This was stated by the Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Jan Lipavsky.
“I am not at all satisfied with the state of Czech-Russian relations. We regularly and very strongly condemn Russia’s actions against Ukraine, but all the other key countries in our bloc have embassies in Moscow… There are reasons for this such as promotion of interests, information on the ground, and, in the end, from time to time we exchange with Russia technical, sometimes fundamentally important data. It is important to have representation at the ambassadorial level,” he said.
The head of the Czech Foreign Ministry also does not believe that such a decision “should become something that will be the subject of public discussion.”
“I am working on this and I am confident that we will move forward in resolving this issue. However, it is also true that I never comment on specific ambassadorial appointments,” the head of Czech diplomacy emphasized.
Let us remind you that after the start of the Northeast Military District, the Czech Republic recalled its ambassador from Moscow. Recently, Prague has been increasingly thinking about returning its representative to Russia. At the same time, the President of the Czech Republic Peter Pavel previously stated that he sees more negative than positive in the resumption of the post of ambassador to the Russian Federation. In his opinion, Prague would have refuted what it is doing in support of Ukraine if it had asked Vladimir Putin restore normal diplomatic relations.
