Lack of blood or anemia is a condition when the body lacks healthy red blood cells or when red blood cells do not function properly. As a result, the organs of the body do not get enough oxygen, making people with anemia pale and tired easily. Anemia can occur temporarily or in the long term with a severity of mild to severe. Anemia is a blood disorder or hematological disorder that occurs when the level of hemoglobin (the main part of red blood cells that binds oxygen) is below normal.
Iron Nutrient Anemia (AGB) has a serious impact, both on pregnant women and on adolescents. It is very important to overcome anemia in adolescent girls so that the problem of anemia does not continue during pregnancy, one of which is by taking Blood Supplement Tablets (TTD) which contains 60 mg of elemental Fe and 0.4 mg of folic acid. In Indonesia, anemia due to iron deficiency (Iron Nutrient Anemia) is one of the nutritional problems that has not been resolved, both in pregnant women and in adolescents.
Anemia has a big impact on health, especially for pregnant women, pregnant women with anemia will cause bleeding in pregnant women, babies born prematurely, LBW (Low Birth Weight), heart, kidney, and brain disorders can even cause the mother to die during childbirth. While anemia in adolescents can inhibit psychomotor development, impair cognitive performance, and scholastic performance. Therefore, the problem of anemia must be prevented and overcome while still a teenager because teenagers will become pregnant women later.
According to WHO in 2011, one in three women who are not pregnant in nearly 500 million women experience anemia due to insufficient iron intake. Adolescent girls are particularly vulnerable to iron deficiency due to menstruation, rapid growth, and increased tissue iron requirements. Giving TTD is an effective way to overcome the problem of anemia, if consumed regularly there will be an increase in Hb levels. In addition, consuming TTD can also increase concentration in women and adolescents and increase IQ in patients with anemia. However, it is unfortunate that TTD has less impact if given during the first trimester of pregnancy and it is recommended to have sufficient iron reserves before pregnancy.
There must be self-awareness about the importance of taking TTD. Adolescent girls who feel useful and useful for TTD will have a strong intention to consume TTD. Actually, getting the TTD is easy, usually the schools themselves have distributed the TTD which is done every month for young girls. In order for the consumption of TTD in adolescent girls to be optimal, it is necessary to have strong motivation and belief in the adolescent. In addition, external encouragement is needed such as the support of teachers and the environment (family), so that the problem of anemia in young women in Indonesia can be overcome.
