The Importance of School Nurses in Flu Vaccination for Children Under 5 Years of Age

The nursing union BET highlights the role of school nurses in the flu vaccination process for children under 5 years of age that began this week in schools in the region. They are responsible for administering, via the nasal route, the vaccine that aims to immunize 30 thousand children of 3 and 4 years old.

Ana María Ruano, SATSE delegate and head of Primary Care in Area I assures that vaccination in schools has demonstrated the importance of the figure of the school nurse. Their training and their proximity to the educational center are helping this vaccination campaign for the little ones to be developed without problems.

The fact that the vaccine is being administered in schools expands its coverage. Parents no longer have to travel with their children to health centers, which encourages many to sign the authorization requested.

And also, the fact that children are vaccinated in schools means that administration is easier. Children feel more accompanied by their friends and they “act brave”“, according to nurse Ana Ruano.
