The importance of reproductive health

On World Fertility Day, we consult the Dr. Sonia Molina, responsible for the Section of Reproductive Medicine of the Gynecology Service of Rawson Hospital, the only public institution in the province that performs fertility treatments and is a receiving center in the Cuyo area, on treatments and advice for people who are thinking about or trying to have a child.

What is fertility?

It is the ability of a woman to achieve a pregnancy and give birth to a live newborn.

When could a couple be considered to have infertility problems?

  • In women under 35 years of age, after a year of unprotected sex on the fertile days of the period.
  • In women over 35 years of age after 6 months of trying.

What are the causes of infertility in a woman and a man?

The causes are multiple and the couple must be evaluated as a whole. If it is a single woman or equal partner who intends to conceive, the woman who wishes to be pregnant should be studied. In general, the studies evaluate the uterine, tubal, hormonal factor and the spermogram in the male.

It is also important to emphasize that healthy habits such as NOT SMOKING, EATING A VARIED AND BALANCED FOOD, notably influence in fertility, both in women and men.

20 low complexity treatments are performed per month.

As of 2018, it begins with high complexity and 10 treatments were carried out, 30 in 2019, 20 in 2020 and 15 treatments between January and May 2021.
