The importance of reading the “fine print” when taking out life insurance – El Sol de Toluca

An average of 28 days insurers take to resolve claims related to life insurance, thus placing the average at 20 business days, reported the delegate in the State of Mexico of the Commission for the Defense of Users of Financial Services ( Condusef), Claudia Mena Rojas, who highlighted the importance of reading the “fine print” in contracts.

The agency’s delegate reported that there are 10 insurers operating in the country: Seguros Argos, MetLife México, Citibanamex, Seguros Banorte, HSBC Seguros, Zurich Santander, Axa, GNP, BBVA and Seguros Monterrey, of which only two decreased their time response.

Among the insurance companies that reduced their response time are: HSBC Seguros and Seguros Monterrey.

He recalled that the main function of life insurance is to protect individuals against a possible adverse situation caused by the death or absolute permanent disability of the insured, providing economic stability to the family.

It is worth mentioning that, among the main disagreements or causes, for which the users initiated the claim process (controversy), the following stand out: Breach of the contract, unattended cancellation of the policy not contracted and cancellation of the contract by the insurer.

According to article 276 of the Law of Insurance and Bonding Institutions, if an insurer does not comply with its obligations within the terms it legally has to do so, it must pay the creditor (client) compensation for late payment.

For their part, specialists consider that when contracting life insurance it is of the utmost importance to pay attention to all the clauses established in the contract if you want to avoid later problems for collection.

While, according to the results of the National Survey of Financial Inclusion, carried out by INEGI, there are 54 million adults who do not have some type of insurance, and this is mainly due to its cost (42%); because they do not know them or do not know where to request them (20%); or else, that they have not been offered them (9%); or have mistrust of insurers (4%).

Given this, the state delegate of the Condusef invited citizens interested in this issue to approach the body via the internet or social networks, and receive information regarding basic insurance, which have simple conditions and simple requirements for the claim and claims payment; since these types of tools are designed to provide protection from the most common risks and their main quality is that some are cheap.
