What is polio?

Poliovirus or poliomyelitis is a disease that weakens the nervous system of the human body. Usually this virus often attacks babies under five years old who have not received the polio vaccine. It is not uncommon for adults to contract the polio virus. Therefore, mothers in Indonesia are obliged to give polio vaccine to their children because there are so many benefits for the future.

Polio Virus Transmission

Polio is spread by contaminated water and food or direct contact with an infected person. Many people infected with polio don’t have any symptoms. The polio virus spreads very quickly in the body if the infected person has not received the vaccine.

Purpose of the Polio Vaccine

The polio vaccine aims to protect the body from the virus and minimize the risk of complications to the body if the body is infected with the polio virus.

When Should Polio Vaccine?

The polio vaccine is one of the vaccines that must be given to every child in Indonesia. Usually the vaccine is given when the toddler is as recommended by IDAI. The earliest polio vaccine was an oral vaccine given at birth. After that, the polio vaccine is given by injection.

The polio vaccine itself has spread throughout Indonesia, in the form of drops (OPV) and injections (IPV).

Polio drops (OPV) were given 4 times, namely at the ages of 1, 2, 3 and 4 months. Injectable polio (IPV) was given 1 time.

If your child has not received the complete polio vaccine, immediately visit a Pediatrician to get the complete polio vaccine.
