She stressed the importance of the topics of this forum, which is organized by the Emirates News Agency “WAM” and discusses “the role of the media in highlighting sustainability issues,” noting that with the UAE’s preparations to host the twenty-eighth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP) next November in the city Expo Dubai, the media has a great responsibility in highlighting issues of sustainability and highlighting the current challenges due to climate change, and the prominent role of the UAE at the local, regional and global levels in achieving a qualitative shift in the course of global climate action.
Her Excellency extended her deepest thanks and appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, for His Highness’s generous patronage of the International Government Communication Forum, which is held under the slogan “Today’s Resources… Tomorrow’s Wealth” and includes an agenda full of rich activities that address pressing issues. She also praised the continued support of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council, for the forum.
For his part, Abdullah Abdul Karim, Acting Executive Director of the News Content Sector at the Emirates News Agency, WAM, stressed that the media has today become one of the main engines for building prosperous and developed societies, as the UAE, in this regard, with the support and care of the wise leadership, has given great attention to establishing an advanced national media system. An innovator who keeps pace with the state’s ambitious development vision in all fields.
He said that the Global Media Forum, which is being held prior to the opening of the activities of the International Government Communication Forum at the Expo Center Sharjah, organized by the Emirates News Agency, addresses an important and urgent issue, which is the role of the media in highlighting sustainability issues, noting that the UAE has today become a leading global model in adopting sustainable solutions. In all sectors and implementing many pioneering projects and initiatives in the clean and renewable energy sector in various parts of the world, it is also preparing to host COP28 with unlimited ambition in order to enhance the global climate action process and support the international goals to achieve sustainable development.
He pointed out that this forum provides a platform to learn about the reality of contemporary media and the role of modern technology in enhancing the quality of media work, and qualifying young national media cadres familiar with all the skills and tools of future media, and capable of playing an effective media role and supporting development paths in various sectors.
He explained that the media was and will remain a mirror of society, and the UAE today is full of a group of national media outlets that are keen to carry out their media message with all professionalism and craftsmanship, to express the values ​​of tolerance, coexistence and pluralism established in society.
He stressed that building fruitful and constructive partnerships between various global media institutions has become an urgent necessity, especially in light of the rapid technological development and the spread of technologies related to artificial intelligence, adding that the Emirates News Agency is constantly keen to keep pace with this development in its media services that it provides today in about 19 languages.
