Anyway, according to the general theory of relativity, in the case of a peripheral speed exceeding the speed of light, the radius of the event horizon would acquire imaginary, and thus non-physical, values. The event horizon would cease to exist and a so-called naked singularity would appear, which, of course, violates several valid laws of physics. According to the scientists’ belief, such a phenomenon cannot occur, and therefore even a black hole cannot rotate so quickly.

Research shows that a significant fraction of galactic supermassive black holes are dangerously close to this limit, and that fast-spinning black holes are significantly more common in the universe than their slow-spinning counterparts.
