Chief Secretary Su Xiang shared that during the operation, the anesthesiology department will use various methods to avoid hypothermia, such as using thermal blankets, heated humidifiers in the breathing circuit, and heated intravenous infusions to maintain 36.5°C to 37.5°C ( A normal body temperature range of 97.7°F to 99.5°F) is critical to preventing these complications.

He emphasized that it is particularly important to strictly control normal body temperature during cardiac or neurosurgery, because the brain and heart tissue are highly sensitive to temperature changes, and even small deviations from the normal range may cause serious neurological deficits, arrhythmias, etc. Consequences; conversely, when the patient’s body temperature exceeds the normal range (the so-called “hyperthermia”), it can also be harmful during surgery.

Chief Secretary Su Xiang explained that high body temperature will increase the metabolic rate, leading to higher oxygen demand and potential tissue damage. It will also aggravate the inflammatory response, causing increased postoperative pain and delayed recovery. In addition, elevated body temperature may also lead to heat stroke or other heat-related complications.
