If insurance providers have their way, we could buy a new policy every day. In fact, there are some insurances that every citizen should definitely have. These include personal liability, car insurance, health insurance and of course household insurance. However, the latter in particular is still missing in many households today. For this reason, here is a brief summary of what household insurance can do and why it is so important!
Protected in different situations – that’s what household insurance provides
If you accidentally damage your best friend’s furniture, you are covered by liability. But what does it actually look like when someone breaks into your home, the ceramic hob is damaged or snow causes damage? In this case it needs one household insurance, which provides solid protection. The following cases of damage are covered, for example:
- Frost damage, broken pipes and other damage caused by tap water
- Damage caused by storm, snow or hail
- Burglaries including replacement of the stolen goods
- Glass breakage in the window area and in the house
- fire damage
In addition, it is possible to extend the household insurance if desired. One of the healthiest sport is cycling, but a bike is expensive. If it is stolen, it is very annoying for the person concerned. It therefore makes sense for owners of e-bikes or expensive bicycles to expand their household insurance with bicycle theft insurance.
Also a supplementary liability insurance for the second most popular pet in Austriathe dog, can protect against high costs.
Scope of household insurance – who benefits from it?
There are usually several people living in a household and this raises the question of who is insured at all. Personal liability insurance or household insurance not only includes the policyholder himself, but also the following persons:
- partner or spouse
- Children under the age of 18
- Children up to the age of 25, provided they do not yet have their own household or income
- employees of the policyholder
The integration of these groups of people ensures that damage caused by these people is also covered and that the policyholder does not have to worry as much.
Important to know: The assumption that the landlord is responsible for the costs of household insurance is wrong! The (low) fees of the policy are borne by the policyholder himself.
Does good insurance have to be expensive?
For a long time, students in Austria did not take out household insurance because they wanted to protect their low income. In the meantime almost all households in Austria have the necessary policy.
Many people fear the high costs of household insurance, but they are more likely to arise if there is no insurance in the event of damage! Nevertheless, consumers have the opportunity to influence the costs themselves. On the one hand, the size of the apartment plays a role, but on the other hand, optional extras can also be selected and deselected. In addition, the user of the insurance can decide whether he chooses a deductible or not.
Large insurance companies such as GRAWE (“Die Grazer Wechselseitiger Versicherung AG”) make it possible for insured persons to take their individuality into account when deciding on the policy. As important as savings tips are in everyday life, being stingy with insurance is pointless.
If damage occurs and the person concerned is not protected, the costs can run into the millions. By then at the latest, the decision against household insurance will be bitterly regretted.
