In Mexico, the Cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of deathaccording to recent figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI). In the first half of 2023, these conditions claimed the lives of 97,187 people, ranking first in mortality in all states of the country, affecting men and women equally.
GNP Seguros revealed that in the last 5 years, it has covered 30,000 cases of vascular diseases, meaning 4.7 billion pesos paid to its policyholders. The above was covered for major individual medical expenses insurance clients and indicated that 64% of the cases dealt with were men.
In particular, in 2023 and in the first half of 2024, GNP has registered almost 10,000 new cases and has paid more than 1.6 billion pesos for these conditions. Among the most frequently treated cases are ischemic heart disease, heart attack and angina pectoris.
They noted, in a case of heart disease which resulted from coronary obstruction at a cost of more than 27.8 million pesos, which shows the high cost of treating these diseases without the support of medical expenses insurance.
Dr. Carmina Villavicencio, assistant director of operations at Médica Móvil, emphasized the importance of timely care, highlighting that changing risk factors and following appropriate treatment not only improves the condition of patients, but also their hope and quality of life.
