However, a tractor caught fire and burned down completely. “It’s fortunate that there were no deaths or injuries in a fire of this dimension,” said the mayor of Weiterstadt, Ralf Möller (SPD). He praised the quick reaction of the emergency services, but at the same time pointed out that the city of Weiterstadt had to discuss how to deal with these events in the future due to several extreme risk situations with fires and floods. “The fields are so dry that it spreads quickly. We have to think about how we can preventively counteract this in the future. Because the operations are piling up and events like this or the flooding in May in our districts are certainly also related to climate change.”
