Jakarta (ANTARA) – Encrypted messages, including DM (direct messages) aka private messages, has recently become a hot topic of conversation because of the newest feature on a social media platform.

Technology users need to understand how important encrypted messages are because they relate to the protection and confidentiality of conversations. WhatsApp, in a press release on Friday, explained that encryption is a way to lock data so that only people who have a certain key (the so-called encryption key) can open it.

The popular encryption on instant messaging applications is end-to-end, which ensures that only the sender and recipient can read the message. The platform used to send the message can’t even read the message.

On encryption end-to-end, only the sender and recipient have the key to open and read the message. The use of that technology protects messages from attacks, including attacks man-in-the-middle that exploits vulnerabilities to eavesdrop.

Messaging apps that have encryption master settings end-to-end usually also protects messages in the form of voice, photos and documents.

Encryption end-to-end not only important for messaging activity, but, also backup or backup. The backup end-to-end encryption protect messages stored in the cloud, regardless of brand used.

On the WhatsApp app, if you turn on encrypted backup, the platform will protect messages with a 64-digit key or password that can’t be reset if the user forgets it.
