Central Intelligence Agency Director William Burns explained why it is strategically important for the United States to continue supporting Ukraine as Russia continues its full-scale invasion.

Details: According to the CIA chief, Russia has already lost the war on many levels, losing at least 315,000 Russian troops and two-thirds of its pre-war tank fleet, and falling no closer to its strategic goal of capturing Kyiv and conquering Ukraine.
He also believes that the invasion undermined Putin’s power, as evidenced by the mutiny of Wagner PMC leader Yevgeny Prigozhin in June 2023. At the same time, he is determined to prolong the war, hoping that time is on his side.
“The key to success is maintaining Western aid to Ukraine. Less than five percent of the U.S. defense budget is a modest investment compared with the significant geopolitical payoff for the United States and the significant return on American industry,” Burns writes.
He notes that further assistance to Kyiv with weapons will provide it with a “stronger position” in the event of likely negotiations, and will also provide a chance to ensure a long-term gain for Ukraine and a strategic loss for Russia.
“For the United States to withdraw from the conflict at this critical moment and end its support for Ukraine would be an own goal of historic proportions,” the head of the CIA concludes.
As we know, the White House’s emergency request for $61 billion in funding for Ukraine is stuck in Congress as Republicans demand significant concessions on immigration policy.
The White House previously stated that it had already have no money for new military support for Ukraine before it is passed by the US Congress.
