The Importance of Cleaning Your Tongue for Oral and Dental Health

DPA-

Brushing teeth is one of the most important healthy habits that everyone must follow to maintain oral and dental health.

However, cleaning the tongue is also very important, as it helps get rid of bacteria and plaque that accumulate on the tongue, which can cause bad breath and gingivitis.

The German Society of Dentistry and Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine explains that over time, a layer of food debris forms on the tongue, which produces gases that can cause an unpleasant odor to emerge from the mouth.

This layer also forms a fertile environment for the proliferation of bacteria and fungi, which negatively affect oral health. Bacteria can attack the gums and cause painful inflammation.

To avoid these health problems, the tongue should be cleaned daily using a tongue scraper or a tongue cleaning brush. The scraper works to remove the surface level of the layer deposited on the tongue, while the brush can reach the deeper levels.

Regarding how to do this, the association explained that the scraper or brush is placed on the back third of the tongue, then cleaned by moving the scraper or brush from back to front, repeating this process several times until the tongue feels clean.
