The Importance of Breastfeeding and the Role of Breast Milk in Infant Health

This was stated by the Minister of Public Health, Dr. Luis Medina Ruiz, in the framework of Breastfeeding Week.

“The world week of breastfeeding is very important and that we talk about this too, unfortunately in recent times many mothers have lost the value of breastfeeding newborn children”, began the minister, doctor Luis Medina Ruiz.

He also added: “Breast milk not only feeds and hydrates, but also carries all the antibodies from the diseases that the mother suffered and those she acquired by being vaccinated. We are talking about the flu vaccine, the anti-Covid vaccine and possibly next year the respiratory syncytial virus vaccine, which will transfer the antibodies to this disease to the newborn ”.

“Breast milk exclusively for the first six months is a firm recommendation, it is not necessary to give them water, juice, or anything else when it is hot, only by putting it on the breast they are giving them all the food, in addition to the necessary defenses and for of course something else that is not insignificant, which is the issue of love, affection, attachment, because a child needs food and needs that maternal and family affection that makes him mature properly ”, he closed.

The Ministry of Health invites you to participate in the activities provided in this important week:
