The Importance of a Coalition Agreement for Political Dialogue: Insights from Former Bulgarian Prime Minister Stefan Yanev

“There must be a coalition agreement. This is the way to conduct a dialogue and obtain interaction between political entities,” said the leader of “Bulgarian Rise”, former prime minister and former minister of defense Stefan Yanev in the bTV studio.

According to him, at the moment it is not clear who is responsible and indicated that perhaps this was the purpose.

“The atmosphere in the National Assembly seems to me to be similar to that in the 48th Parliament, where the political forces did not stop their pre-election speech. We are not close to the time when this government will fall, but it could happen at any moment. Things are not predictable from the point of view of political stability. Because of their common interests, this cooperation may continue, but it is also possible that it will end very quickly,” Yanev said.

“In this situation, we are ready for elections. We are also preparing for the local elections. They are different from parliamentary ones in that they are majoritarian, so we will have a regional approach. We have figures in many places. We will have the participation of local coalitions,” he emphasized.

“We have our phones and we can talk when necessary,” Yanev said when asked what his relationship with President Radev was.

“I would not say that I have lost the confidence of the president. I have not done ala-bala with anyone, so there can be no talk of a loss of trust,” Yanev said categorically.

In his words, the sparks that were created between Radev and Denkov because of the NATO summit were unfounded and groundless. “It doesn’t matter who represents Bulgaria at this kind of event,” pointed out Yanev. He emphasized that it is an even match whether Radev or Denkov will go.

Yanev pointed out that the message we will give at this meeting is strong support for Ukraine in the war. He commented that the aid we send to Ukraine is in the hands of the professional military leadership, who must say what we can and cannot send. According to him, we have no way of knowing what we will send because it is classified information. “What we’re hearing is that Ukraine is happy with what it’s getting,” Yanev said.
