The Impact of Vitamin D Deficiency on Chronic Diseases and Mental Health: A Call for Intervention

Scientists have found a connection between a deficiency of this substance and the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, hypertension, heart attack, psoriasis, obesity, allergic reactions and even epilepsy. In scientific circles, the prevention of cancer with vitamin D is discussed.

It also affects the psychological state. For example, it is known that deficiency can lead to depression. There are studies showing that many people who are suicidal suffer from a lack of vitamin D.

It is produced in the body when a person is in the sun or comes in with food. But, despite the different ways, 43–63% of Russians suffer from its deficiency. This is due to low sun activity throughout the year and insufficient diet. People with a deficiency need to correct their vitamin D levels to maintain health using special medications prescribed by their doctor.
