MADRID, 2 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The British Ministry of Defense has assured this Sunday that the war in Ukraine is representing an “exceptional” challenge to the Russian aeronautical industry and has given the cancellation of its main trade fair, the Maks, as an example.
The cancellation of this fair has taken place “probably for security reasons”, according to the latest assessment of British Military Intelligence. The event is held every two years on the outskirts of Moscow and is an exhibition of the greatest glory of the aerospace sector, both civil and military, “also key to guaranteeing exports” of this material.
Although London puts security problems as the main reason for the cancellation, it is also “probably that the organizers were aware of the damage to their reputation that the absence of international delegations could entail.”
“The sector is suffering under international sanctions, while highly-skilled specialists are under pressure to serve in the militia of the Russian space agency, Roscosmos,” according to the British Ministry of Defense.
London also recalls that the commander-in-chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces, General Sergei Surovikin, has been missing from public light since last week, when the leader of the Wagner mercenary group, Yevgeni Prigozhin, decided to rebel against the Russian military leadership after months of disagreement over strategy in Ukraine.
Surovikin was considered the main link between Wagner and the Russian Defense Ministry at the time the short-lived rebellion broke out, finally aborted thanks to the intervention of the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko.
