The Impact of the Movistar Arena: Economic Growth and Job Creation in Bogotá’s Entertainment Sector

By 2024, the Movistar Arena plans to hold between 120 and 130 public events, in 2023 there will be 100 and it also hopes to develop a payment platform for its attendees and thus elevate the internal consumer experience.

“Everything has been a curve, in 2018, when we opened we had 28 events; 65 in 2019; but in 2020 and 2021 pandemic, in 2022 we had 82 presentations and this 2023 we are going to close with 100. The curve has been increasing and That speaks very well not only about the country, but about the quality of the venue that is the Movistar Arena because we have had artists who had never come to Colombia and performed at this venue,” said Luis Guillermo Quintero, General Manager of the Movistar Arena.

Since 2019, the entertainment sector increased its contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Bogotá to 6 percent.

At the national level, the sector showed 2-digit growth in the national economy (except for the pandemic period), reflecting a constancy in the increase in consumption of this item and in the behavior of the audience.

In addition, 800 to 1,000 jobs have been generated per event, and the percentage of opportunities by gender has been balanced by almost 50 percent.
