The Impact of Stress, Anxiety, and Depression on Weight Loss – Managing Risk Factors

Food is not the only thing that affects – positively or negatively – your weight loss process. A weight loss diet can also be affected by anxiety, stress or depression, among others. All these things are risk factors that can endanger not only the way you manage to lose extra pounds, but especially your health.

Obviously, the mentioned risk factors are such factors at any time, not only when you follow a weight loss diet. However, during a diet, their presence can cause the very opposite – namely weight gain.

Here’s how you can manage them successfully!

Risk factors – how do they affect weight?

The first on the list – and the most obvious when it comes to effects on weight – is stress. This is known for the fact that it leads to overfeeding, implicitly to inadequate nutrition. The term stress eating is current and is part of many people’s lives, especially those with stressful jobs or lifestyles.

In turn, stress influences another risk factor, namely the quality of sleep. When you are stressed, you cannot sleep properly. Again, you resort to overeating to fill your free time in the middle of the night and to recover the energy you need. In this case, following a weight loss diet is almost impossible!

Then, depression and anxiety are known for the fact that they impose limits on the person – in relation to physical activity and even in relation to certain foods. In the case of anxiety, a person may end up avoiding certain situations and foods. Therefore, the risk of having a diet poor in nutrients, vitamins and minerals is extremely high for people who are stressed, depressed, anxious and who do not have quality sleep.

These psychological risk factors affect your motivation, self-control when it comes to eating, the body’s general stress level, the opinion you have about your body, but most importantly, they lead to emotional eating (more precisely, you use food unhealthy to make you feel better when you are overwhelmed by stress and anxiety).

How do you manage the presence of risk factors?

As mentioned, you will not be able to follow a weight loss diet when you are affected by the mentioned risk factors. Often, the best thing you can do is to realize that these problems are psychological and that you need qualified people to manage them – counselors, therapists and psychologists, for example.

Therapy, meditation and in some cases, drug treatments – followed on the recommendation of the specialist doctor – can eliminate the previously mentioned risk factors and allow you to follow a fixed weight loss diet as you wish.

There are also weight loss diets that promote the improvement of the effects caused by the mentioned risk factors. Often, a weight loss diet surrounded by these risk factors does not work because it involves quite a lot of effort on your part.

Instead, NUPO diet, through its quick-to-prepare products, gives enough time to the person who wants to lose weight to reflect, even to meditate. A NUPO preparation is ready in just a few minutes. Thus, you will not have time to take into account the visit to a fast food or semi-prepared foods!
