Internal medicine specialist Olga Shashkova declared that always sleeping five hours a day may lead to irreversible processes in the body. In an interview with the “Izvestia” newspaper, she indicated that this condition may lead to serious diseases, including cancer and obesity.
She said, “What happens to a person if he sleeps 5 hours a day for a week, a month, a year, or more?” If this happens once, the body may not feel the effort that affects performance, fatigue, and productivity during the day. Sleep, it initiates processes against the background of disturbing the body’s circadian rhythm, leading to sleep disturbances, hormonal disorders, obesity, glucose and insulin intolerance, and as a result to diabetes and cancer.
According to her, severe consequences associated with the imbalance of energy metabolism and the metabolism process in general can appear against the background of lack of sleep.
She added: “The production of cortisol, melatonin and somatotropin will be disturbed, fat will accumulate severely, leptin and text will rise to a low basal level of lipid oxidation in the blood. All this can lead to overeating, obesity, the development of type 2 diabetes, chronic stress and high blood pressure.” And cardiovascular disease, menstrual irregularities, infertility and even cancer, especially breast cancer. In short, the metabolic syndrome develops against the background of a disturbance of the circadian rhythm.”
In addition, chronic lack of sleep affects a person’s psycho-emotional state and performance. Therefore, people who do not always get enough sleep are at risk of stress and emotional outbursts, that is, they cannot cope with stressful situations. As a general rule, they are irritable, whiny, inactive, inattentive, have little physical activity, and suffer from a significantly reduced libido.
She said: “Is it possible to compensate for the lack of sleep at the weekend? Yes, of course it is possible if the lack of sleep occurs once. But if this is a permanent condition in life, then it leads to the development of pathological processes. Compensating for it on the weekend is like overeating Food for the future. That is simply impossible. Excessive eating is wrong and sometimes dangerous to health. The same applies to sleep, as it is not possible to sleep for a long time as a reserve for the future. In addition to that, excessive sleep is harmful to health, because it leads to Disruption of the circadian rhythm, so when a person sleeps longer than usual, their body feels ‘broken’ and they suffer from weakness, headaches and low energy.”
According to her, some people try to solve the problem of lack of sleep by drinking coffee and invigorating drinks. However, the results of many studies confirmed that this gives the body additional energy for a short period, and the person does not feel like sleeping 1-2 hours. But its performance remains low
And she concluded: “Caffeine removes some essential mineral elements, such as magnesium, sodium, calcium and B vitamins, which negatively affects the general condition of the body. Therefore, for a normal state of health, you must get enough sleep, but not oversleep. It is better to go Go to bed before 23:00 and not use electronic devices and watch TV an hour before bedtime.
