The Impact of Skipping Breakfast on Children’s Day and School Performance: Study Reveals Findings

An interesting study was conducted in Great Britain, where it was found out how not eating breakfast affects children’s future day and school performance, reported “The Sun”.

Researchers asked 600 children aged 6 to 11 what they think about breakfast and what happens if they skip it in the morning.

More than half (56%) of the respondents recognized that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

Meanwhile, four out of 10 children said that if they don’t eat breakfast in the morning, they are more likely to behave badly, even viciously, during the day.

At the same time, 24% of all surveyed children admitted that not eating breakfast affects their ability to concentrate and on days when they have not had a meal, they pay less attention to teachers. On the other hand, in 42% of cases, children feel very tired during the day.

“It’s exciting when children as young as six are aware of how missing breakfast affects them. Breakfast is a very important meal, not only because of the nutrition and energy it provides throughout the day, but also because of how it can discipline our mornings,” says research customer “General Mills”.

The main reasons why children do not eat breakfast in the morning were also found out. 39% of children admitted that they do not eat in the morning because they are not hungry, 19% – because of lack of time. Meanwhile, 15% of respondents admitted that they do not eat in the morning because there is nothing tasty at home.

Interestingly, 48% of children admitted that they have difficulty learning math if they do not eat breakfast.

The study also surveyed the children’s parents, 54% of whom said their children were grumpier if they hadn’t eaten breakfast. Although 97% of parents encourage their children to eat breakfast every day, 45% complain that their children claim they are not hungry and refuse it.

A General Mills spokesperson says, “Breakfast isn’t just a meal, it’s a learning opportunity. When kids eat breakfast, they’re more likely to excel in the classroom, solve problems, and make friends more easily.”
