The Impact of Russian Aggression on Ukrainian Agricultural Exports

Innovation in action

With the beginning of Russian aggression on the territory of Ukraine, the geography of exports has changed significantly. If in pre-war 2021 the share of exports of agricultural products to Europe was 32%, then according to the results of 10 months of 2023 it is already 59%.

About it reported at the Ukrainian Agricultural Business Club.

This growth is forced, since supplies to other regions have significantly decreased. The share of exports to African countries decreased from 14 to 7%, Asia – from 19 to 12%, Southeast Asia – from 13 to 4%.

Main the reason for such changes – blockade of Ukrainian seaports by Russian troops. Before the war, only these ports could export about 7 million tons of grain crops monthly, while the maximum of alternative routes was reached – 3.7 million tons.

“The development of alternative routes, which were possible only through the territory of the EU countries, led to changes. Ukrainian farmers were forced to look for buyers of their products in European countries,” writes UCAB.

Deliveries to African and Asian countries during the war became possible only thanks to the work of the grain corridor in cooperation with the UN and Turkey, as well as the temporary grain corridor that is shipping now.

The only option to resume exports to Ukraine’s traditional markets is to ensure the safety of sea export routes and increase shipment volumes through this channel, the Ukrainian Agricultural Business Club emphasized.

Let us remind you:

The humanitarian corridor in the Black Sea, which Ukraine launched after Russia’s unilateral withdrawal from the grain deal, from Ukrainian ports came out 100 ships.
