Czech farmers do not like the current practice one bit. While they have to comply with the strictest regulations, which are getting worse and worse every year, and often lead only to making production more expensive, suddenly meat from Ukraine, for example, can be brought here “wildly”.
Stores make money
The Agrarian Chamber of the Czech Republic warned against him some time ago, saying that the farms there do not meet as strict conditions as the European ones and that in the end it could be a really big disaster. Many waved their hands at this, saying that domestic breeders were just worried about their business. That was certainly true, but their words turned out to be prophetic.
Last year and this year, we already have a number of cases where the State Agricultural and Food Inspection Agency secured meat in which salmonella was discovered. It was sold in practically all major chain stores. The problem has been found several times in Tesco, Penny Market or Makru.
In a number of cases, problematic poultry had something to do with it. Namely, the importer, which was the Slovak company WE Trade. So often, customers thought they were buying meat from their neighbors, but it was just repackaged there. It actually came from Ukraine. Retail chains did not stop selling it even after the problems. Apparently, this is an extremely profitable business for them as well. In order not to, they buy meat significantly cheaper and sell it to customers at the normal price. What about the fact that they often pay you handsomely for it.
People will not buy in peace
Based on your experience with the given company, you can be guided by whether the meat you want to buy was imported by it. Don’t be fooled by where the company is coming from or where the meat was packaged either. The country of origin should at least be readable from the food code.

It is understandably annoying that customers cannot shop in Czech stores without any problems, without having to research each food product at length. But that’s just the way it is. There is clearly not enough pressure to improve yet.
