The Impact of Heightened Atmospheric Boundaries on Extreme Weather Events in Russia

Due to the increase in the height of the boundaries between the layers of the atmosphere in Russia, heavy showers, abnormal heat and hail may begin. This was told to URA.RU by the climatologist of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Central UGMS” Nikolai Tereshonok.

“About the troposphere, (the lower layer of the atmosphere – approx. URA.RU) the air dries up, the temperature rises, it expands, that is, the tropopause becomes higher, this is the boundary of the troposphere with the stratosphere, (the second layer of the atmosphere – approx. URA.RU). This means that our troposphere is getting higher and approaching more southern regions. Because of this warming, the tropopause is higher, there is a sharp rise in temperature, which means that the height of these powerful clouds, dangerous clouds that give precipitation, heavy showers, hail, will be higher, and the vertical development will be quite powerful. This is to be expected,” Tereshonok explained.

He also said that due to climate change, the aviation industry will face problems – there will be more turbulence zones, and clouds dangerous for aircraft will appear. “The circulation of the atmosphere is also changing. Not abruptly, of course, gradually changes occur. Stronger string currents arise somewhere, which affect the turbulence of the aircraft. The troposphere is growing in height, naturally increasing the height to which cumulonimbus clouds are formed, dangerous for aviation, which they try to fly around. Everything is changing not for the better, because we need more and more energy. There are more and more people, we are still burning, polluting the atmosphere. A long wave of aviation remains near the surface of the Earth, everything is warming up, the greenhouse effect is intensifying, ”the climatologist said.

Earlier, climatologist Alexei Kokorin said that due to global warming, periods of dry and hot weather are becoming more frequentresulting in fires. Turkey at the moment heat wave expected up to +52. In Yekaterinburg before recorded record highs over the past 187 yearsthe temperature rose to 40 degrees.
