Domestic beef consumption in October reached 53 kg/inhabitant/year, which represents an increase of 6.5% compared to October 2022 (+3.3 kg/inhabitant/year). In addition, it is the highest since 2019 in the tenth month of the year.
In the tenth month of 2023, The meat processing industry slaughtered 1,161 million head of cattle, a total almost identical to that registered last September, reported the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Meat and Derivatives of the Argentine Republic (CICCRA).
An issue that worries the industry is the participation of females in the total task, which reached 50.6% of the total, accumulating seven months above the highest level and marking a new historical record considering the last 34 Octobers.

Price increases aligned with inflation
Regarding prices after two increases of 12.2% monthly, in October they increased 8.6%, which represents a year-on-year increase of 142.9%, almost identical to the 142.7% inflation reported by the INDEC.
The value of barbecue showed the greatest monthly increase (8.8%), followed by the rump (6.4%), the shoulder (5.8%), the buttock (5.6%) and the common minced meat (4.7%). And the price of a box of frozen hamburgers rose 8.5% compared to September. For its part, whole chicken registered a price increase of 10.8% between the two months considered.
According to CICCRA, in the comparison with the month prior to the start of the ‘quarantine’ implemented to confront the Covid-19 pandemic (February 2020), the increase in the general level of the GBA CPI reached 739.0% (+ 8.4 times), while The average price of beef cuts did the same by 903.3% (+10.0 times).
