Tesla’s sales figures break records time and time again and you also hear fewer complaints about the initially lesser build quality. Yet there are still Tesla owners who get rid of their cars. However, the reason for this has nothing to do with the car, but everything with the company’s CEO.
That CEO is Elon Musk. The founder of the brand is brilliant in many ways, but not in communication. He admits that himself. In an interview, he once said he had Asperger’s syndrome, a disorder on the autistic spectrum. As a result, he is probably not very good at assessing how best to present himself socially. In particular, his sometimes blunt and direct tweets are detested by many.
So much so that Musk’s big mouth is the number one reason for Tesla owners to get rid of their vehicle, according to a Bloomberg survey of 7,000 Model 3 buyers. Musk is anything but undisputed. He kicked a lot of people in the shins. 21.5 percent of people who sold their Tesla cited disagreement with Musk’s statements as the reason for selling. The quality of the service came second with 18.7 percent of the answers.
91 percent of owners who indicated in the survey that their next car would not be a Tesla cite negative feelings towards Musk as the reason. Nevertheless, the group of disappointed Tesla buyers is small, because 75 percent indicated that their new car will be a Tesla again.
Of those surveyed, 70 percent of whom were from the US, more than 90 percent were “satisfied to very satisfied” with the performance, reliability and ease of use of the Tesla Model 3. Despite Elon Musk’s rantings, 85 percent still have a positive opinion towards Tesla as a brand. But 50 percent of those surveyed would be even more positive about the brand if the CEO stopped tweeting.
