The Impact of AI on Professions: Graphic Designers and Advertisers Threatened

As artificial intelligence has become smarter and more creative, more and more professions are threatened by the new technology – such as advertisers and designers. SVT News has met Jessica Lynn Nalbach who was one of 25 graphic designers and world builders who were let go from the game company Mindark earlier this year. At the same time as the workforce shrank by 40 percent, the gaming company invested in AI.

“It came as a shock, we were not prepared for it at all. It felt like I was being replaced by AI,” she says.

SVT has also spoken with Mindark CEO Henrik Nel. He is asked if the company could not do both, utilize the efficiency of AI and keep the staff to produce more.

He makes an analogy with a fishing company, and how effective it is to have anglers when fishing trawlers have been invented.

“Continuing to have extra staff who are anglers when you also have trawlers no longer makes as much sense.”

According to analyzes from the bank Goldman Sachs and the consulting firm McKinsey, up to two-thirds of knowledge workers’ jobs are expected to be replaced by AI.
