The IMF has published new forecasts: what will happen to the economy

The global economy is recovering faster than forecast. At the same time, the economy is going unevenly in different countries, as well as in different sectors. GDP in many countries is much lower than pre-crisis indicators.

This was stated by the first deputy head of the International Monetary Fund Jeffrey Okamoto, according to the website organization… “In January, we forecast global growth in 2021 at 5.5%, but prospects for a stronger recovery are emerging – due to additional fiscal stimulus, especially in the US, and the prospects for wider vaccination,” he said.

The IMF predicts that total per capita income in developing countries, excluding China, will be 22% lower between 2020 and 2022 than it would have been without the pandemic. This could put almost 90 million people below the poverty line since the start of the pandemic.

Recall the UN Conference on Trade and Development improved its forecast for the development of the world economy from 4.3 to 4.7%. The economy will grow faster thanks to the enhanced recovery in the United States.
