“Roger Federer arrested by the police”, “Philippe Revaz fired”: since November, personalities or the image of the RTS have been used on social networks as part of a vast online fraud campaign. Faced with these distorted images, vigilance is required.
For several weeks, RTS has been used as a front to redirect to financial scam sites. Every day, the RTS secretariat receives dozens of reports from the population, whether by telephone or e-mail. Reports which are then directly transmitted to the legal department.
This matter is taken very seriously by management. “For the moment, we are limiting ourselves to reporting these publications to the platforms concerned, which works quite well. But we reserve the right to take legal action under the latest developments in the penal code. This means that people who spread false information are exposed to the consequences of legal action,” explains Marco Ferrara, spokesperson and head of the RTS media center, on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Punishable acts
At the judicial level, levers exist, explains Juliette Ancelle, lawyer. “Since September 1, 2023, a criminal provision in Switzerland punishes identity theft if it is done to obtain gain. However, we are typically in this scenario here.”
To recognize these scams, certain signs such as a false internet address or a logo that is no longer up to date can give you a clue.
