The illness of drivers and the pace of vaccination affect the movement of public transport / LR1 / / Latvijas Radio

Due to the illness of public transport drivers, changes in the movement of public transport in Riga are expected. At present, the drivers of “Rīgas satiksme” vehicles are suffering from both Covid-19 and other viruses, as a result of which it is not possible to fully ensure the implementation of the planned timetables.

On the other hand, the Road Transport Directorate reveals that the number of regional bus drivers with Covid-19 certificates in passenger transport companies varies from 70% to 95%. Over the last two weeks, there has been a trend for a sharp increase in the number of drivers who have started the vaccination process.

Chairman of the Board of “Rīgas satiksme” Jineta Innusa reveals that the situation in the company is tense, because a lot of patients are directly ill.

Currently, 330 people out of 1,500 drivers are ill, of whom 53 are ill with Covid-19. Therefore, “Rīgas satiksme” is not able to perform all the specified flights and passengers have already noticed that buses do not arrive at the stop these days, as indicated in the list. It is therefore proposed that a new list be approved from Wednesday, 3 November.
