The II Oral Narration Cycle ‘Palabras El Paso’ vindicates culture as a meeting place

The II Cycle of Oral Narration of El Paso once again filled the Monterrey Theater with words, with eyes that look at each other and hearts that beat to the rhythm of good stories. The new appointment with oral narration, this time in full ‘April, Month of the Book’, surprised the public with the show ‘Mujeres en Camino’ by Laura Escuela, it is reported in a press release.

For the mayor of El Paso, Sergio Rodríguez, “it is magnificent news that our city strengthens and makes this type of project its own, which offers great news every month and allows us to continue to vindicate culture as a safe meeting point for all ages. Oral storytelling activities for adult audiences are gaining more and more weight in our municipal programming, rejoicing in the great interest it arouses among neighbors ”.

“Every month ‘Palabras El Paso’ proposes a new appointment with literature, with proposals as interesting as the one that Laura Escuela has offered us, giving visibility to the oral tradition and bringing the art of storytelling closer to the public. After two years of experience, we underline our commitment to this pioneering storytelling cycle on the island, thanking the response of the people and the involvement of the team that makes it possible ”, highlights the Councilor for Culture, Irinova Hernández.

Book Month Program

On the afternoon of this Wednesday, at 7:00 p.m., in the Auditorium, a long-awaited appointment arrives at El Cuarto Inexhaustible, the El Paso Thematic Reading Club coordinated by Patricia Figuero. In this ‘network of words to weave life’, the participants will continue to enjoy shared lectures and talks, which in April will focus on a new topic: racism.

The cultural offer will move on Thursday 15 to the Monterrey Theater, starting at 8:00 p.m., with the Show 20 Erotic Tales and a Desperate Song by Cruzado Mágico. Stories interpreted by the actress María J. Batista, with a poetic and fun approach, vindicated the value of the feminine and the suggestive world of sensuality and couple relationships. Inspiringly seasoned with the music and voice of Jorge Guerra.

For Friday 16 at 5:00 p.m. at the Casa de la Cultura, the Tolón, Tolón with Mon Peraza Family Story Session is scheduled. Based on the story of the cow Victoria by the writer Nono Granero, this fun activity intersperses narration, poetry and children’s songs from oral tradition.

The proposal for Saturday 17, this time in the morning (11:00 am in the Auditorium), is aimed at families with babies from 6 to 36 months. BebeCuentos con Isabel Bolívar, brings creativity and imagination to the little ones every month. This initiative, with an excellent reception in the municipality, is also added to the calendar for the month of April.

On the same Saturday the 17th, at 8:30 p.m. and in the heart of the old town, the program surprises with The Thousand and One Nights in El Paso. The municipality will experience a new magical evening on the occasion of the third edition of a project that combines music, theater, dance, art and culture in emblematic spaces.

From Monday 19 to Thursday 22, between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., the House of Culture hosts the youth workshops of Initiation to Narrative Games, taught by the narrators Diego Reinfeld and Fabio González. This interesting initiative will also take place at IES El Paso in the morning.

On Thursday 22 at 8:30 p.m., another special moment will be experienced in the Auditorium with the presentation of the book The Other Face of the Moon by Ángel Nazco García. In his new book, the versatile writer from Passage addresses the history and role of Europe in the colonization of some countries in Africa and Latin America.

During the weekend, Friday 23 (10:00 am – 7:00 pm) and Saturday 24 (9:00 am – 2:00 pm), MercaFest El Paso will offer the public a wide variety of stands and dynamization activities dedicated to the Day of Book. The workshops ‘Create your Story’ and animation of reading with ‘BiblioBike’, among the proposals for the little ones.

Also on Friday 23 at 5:00 p.m., family entertainment returns to the Auditorium of the House of Culture with the Show The Garden of Sounds, a Badabadum production. ‘A gift for the senses, a playful and educational experience to enjoy as a family’ by Cristina Martín and Raquel García (voice), Yeray González (trumpet) and Oliver Curbelo (piano).

Among the great novelties of this year’s program, on April 23, 24 and 25, the Monterrey Theater will become the venue for the First ExpresARTe Literary Conference, aimed at young people and adults. A new cultural project with countless activities where literature will be the main protagonist.

On Saturday 24 at 8:00 p.m., at the House of Culture, the play La Bella Durmiente, el Bello Durmiente and vice versa will be staged, by the students of the Theater Workshop taught by Susana Lorenzo. ‘Why did the fairies wish for her to be beautiful and for him to be brave? We try to help children develop a critical spirit by incorporating brushstrokes into the work in an innocent, naive and even funny way that may go unnoticed, but they are there! ‘

During the last week of April, from Tuesday 27 to Friday 30 and during school hours, the educational centers of the municipality will join the celebration of Book Day 2021 with different activities implemented with the support of the Consistory. Among them, they will participate in interesting ‘Narrative Pills’ given by Elena Revuelta.

The program concludes on Friday the 30th at the Casa de la Cultura, with the presentation of El Libro de los Arrullos, a work republished by the El Paso City Council. The event will be attended by its authors: Estrella Ortiz, Elena Revuelta and Luisa Borreguero.
