The Galician Inter-Union Confederation (CIG) has denounced this Tuesday the “risk” posed to fishing activity and marine ecosystems by the installation of wind farms in the sea, after the approval, by the Council of Ministers, of the management plans of maritime spaces.

For the nationalist union, these plans, as they are conceived, constitute a “regression” since “they are not compatible with traditional uses on the coast”, such as the maintenance of fishing activity and the preservation of biodiversity.

“A sustainable energy model cannot put those social sectors that provide basic food to the population at risk, cannot guarantee that there are no negative environmental and ecological repercussions, or suppose irreversible economic and social damage”, lamented the general secretary of the CIG, Paulo Carril.
