Bellingcat: The identity linked to the man accused of espionage belongs to a Russian intelligence colonel

The Bellingcat grave network claims that the identity linked to the man accused of espionage in Norway belongs to a Russian intelligence colonel.

VG has, in collaboration with Bellingcat, seen information linking Mikhail Valeriyevich Mikushin (44) to the GRU intelligence service.

Bellingcat checked Mikusjin’s registered addresses in Russia and found him registered in a housing estate reserved for GRU officers, writes VG.

The Russian identity has been linked by police to the man who is incarcerated on a spying charge in Tromsø. The man himself claimed to be Brazilian under the name of José Assis Giammaria. Police and the PST say this is unlikely to actually be the man’s identity.

– Good work, Norway – you took a colonel from GRU, writes Christo Grozev on Bellingcat on Twitter. (NRK / NTB)
