iPad Air 2022: first impression

In addition to the iPhone SE 2022, we also got to see a new iPad during the event in March 2022. The iPad Air 2022 (also called iPad Air 5) got a nice upgrade back then.

Slightly different colors

Although, when you pick up the tablet for the first time, you don’t notice it much. You can tell by the slightly different colors that you have a new iPad Air. The iPad Air 2022 comes in space gray, starlight, pink, purple and blue. But otherwise it looks like two drops of water on the previous version.

Faster thanks to M1

Until you get started with it. Now you don’t notice that much in home, garden and kitchen apps, because the iPad Air 2020 was already nice and smooth. But with heavy games (think of Genshin Impact) you will notice it.

The iPad Air 2022 has an M1 chip (which is also in the iPad Pro 2021 and the MacBook Air sit). The iPad Air 2020 had to do it ‘only’ with an A14 chip that you still know from the iPhone 12† In the future you will undoubtedly benefit from the M1 chip even more.

Frontcamera: flinke upgrade

The selfie camera has also been upgraded. For example, the front camera has an improved 12-megapixel camera. The previous iPad Air from 2020 still had a 7-megapixel camera. In addition, the iPad Air 2022 now has Middelpunt (Center Stage), just like the iPad Mini 2021† This keeps you centered during video calling, even when you walk through the room.

If you are with several people, the camera will automatically zoom out to keep everyone in the picture. In addition to FaceTime, Midpoint also works with other video apps, such as Zoom.

Conclusion: iPad Air 2022 first impression

When you use the iPad Air 2022 for the first time, not much seems to have changed. Especially if you already have an iPad Air 2020, only the improved front camera stands out at first glance. But if you use the iPad Air 5 a little longer, you will find out how smooth this new tablet actually is. You now have the performance of an iPad Pro 2021 in a smaller package.

We can already say after this first impression: the iPad Air 2022 is the ideal iPad for everyone!
