Trends come and go, whether we like them or not. We take what appears on the catwalk and what abounds on social media, and this year it is clearly the 90s and 2000s that have been high on the list.

The mistake everyone makes
One of the biggest trends from the past decade is denim on denim – which also featured strongly in the fashion scene last year. This in turn brought Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake’s unforgettable denim on denim moment at the 2011 American Music Awards to the fore.
And you probably remember it: She in a dress made of denim with a matching denim bag, and he in a denim suit and denim cowboy hat.

Now, 20 years later, Britney looks back on the iconic fashion moment in her new book “The Woman in Me”. Here she admits that the outfit was a bit tacky, and that it all started as a joke.
– When I found out that Justin was going to wear denim to the award ceremony, I thought we should match. Let’s do denim on denim, I thought, she writes in the book according to People.
The outfit attracts attention
– I meant it as a joke at first. I didn’t think my stylist was going to do it, and I never thought Justin would pull it off with me. But we both went all in.
When she looks back at the outfit now, she understands why exactly that outfit has been mentioned in many contexts – both positively and negatively.
– I understand that it was tacky, but it was also quite nice in its own way, and I am happy to see that many have parodied it as a Halloween costume, she writes in the book.

KK’s fashion editor Ida Elise Eide Einarsdottir is clear in her speech, and believes that the outfit is unforgettable.
– This outfit is nothing short of epic, and has been tried to be recreated repeatedly since – also for Halloween. It’s like peak 2000s in a way. Tacky, yes, but still with your finger on the pulse. It hit the zeitgeist in the middle of the heart, in a way, she says and adds:

– Denim on denim has recently become a trend again. Trends come and go, as you know, and the 90s and 2000s have ridden the fashion industry like a mare – especially the Y2K style that this outfit practically embodies.
Of course, it all started long before the 90s. Already in the 50s, denim on denim was introduced by names such as Elvis Presley, but it was admittedly only in the 70s and 80s that the trend really gained a foothold.
MinMote journalist, Elise Alexandra Årnes Gulbrandsen, has previously spoke to KK about the denim trend and believes the trend is a classic.
– Denim is an immortal classic, no matter how you twist and turn it.
