Protest in The Hague against the Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip – Europa Press/Contact/Charles M Vella – Archive
MADRID, 15 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has set for April 8 and 9 the first public hearings for the complaint filed against Germany by Nicaragua, which warns of alleged connivance of the German authorities with the “genocide” that Israel would be committing in the Gaza Strip.
The Central American country appeals to the Genocide Convention and the Geneva Conventions to question the military and financial aid offered to Israel and demand the adoption of provisional measures. The two parties will present their respective arguments next month, a step before the ICJ decides whether to impose some type of precautionary measure.
The Nicaraguan party will take the floor on April 8, while the German party will do the same a day later, according to the initial calendar released by the court and which does not set a date for the final decision-making.
The ICJ also has another case on the table relating to the current military offensive on Gaza, initiated by South Africa, and which has already resulted in the adoption of precautionary measures. In a first decision, the court urged Israeli forces to do everything possible to prevent genocide, but did not expressly demand an end to operations in the Strip.
