In the ran Bundesliga web show, coaching legend Felix Magath showed understanding for the players: “I don’t think it’s morally ok if they now take athletes and the athletes should do what the politicians and business people couldn’t do. They all do business where they can do business.”
For Magath, the pros are doing an injustice when they are supposed to represent the moral values of the West: “Because the Saudis have now chosen football players, should the football players save the world? No, I don’t think the world works that way.”
The 70-year-old explained: “Everywhere in sports, the golfers, the football players, go where there’s the most money. That’s the whole society of the world. Why shouldn’t footballers follow that? I think that’s hypocritical.”
And he himself would have no problem coaching a team in Saudi Arabia. He also still dares to get a job with a Bundesliga club. “I dared the adventure to China. I don’t care if I work in Western Europe, America or Asia. If something is interesting from a sporting point of view, it’s interesting for me,” explained the former HSV professional.
