The. will be published in November Hunger Games spin-off Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes in cinemas. Director Francis Lawrence returns to the franchise. During an interview, he reflects on his work on the Hunger Games films, and still regrets a drastic choice in the last 2 films.
In a recent interview met People.com Lawrence reveals that he regrets splitting the final book in the saga, Mockingjay, in two films. While he feels both films have unique dramatic arcs, he doesn’t think the choice was the right one for fans.
Frustrating ending
“I absolutely regret it, that may not apply to everyone, but it certainly does to me,” reveals Lawrence. “I didn’t realize until later, after hearing the reactions from fans and critics, that Mockingjay Part 1 had a frustrating ending.”
“I imagine fans were angry,” the director continues. “If an episode of a TV series ends on a cliffhanger, you only have to wait a week for the sequel. But asking fans to wait a year to see how a movie ends felt a little unfair, even though it shouldn’t have been meant.”
4 hours
“I’m glad we were able to bring so many elements of the book to the big screen,” concludes Lawrence. “Both parts together last more than 4 hours, we could never have packed it all into one film.”
