The name space telescope was 30 years old: on April 24, 1990, the Discovery Shuttle STS-31 launched with the device on board and put it into the calculated orbit the next day.

James Webb was originally planned to be launched in 2007, but the timing was repeatedly shifted. So far, the expected launch date is March 2021, but by this time the telescope is unlikely to be ready. The U.S. Audit Office proposed moving the start off another four months, that is, in July 2021.
