The HPV Vaccine Can Be Given to Women Who Are Actively Intimate, These Are the Conditions

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Obstetrics and Gynecology Doctor Grace Valentine, Sp.OG said, there are two conditions for women who are sexually active to be injected with the vaccine. Human Papilomavirus (HPV) to prevent cervical cancer.

Both of these conditions, said Grace, namely the woman who will be given the vaccine has not been infected with HPV and did not have cervical cancer before being given the vaccine.

If later women have received a complete HPV vaccination, Grace reminded them to continue to have regular pap smears. This is because the vaccines available are only for the two most common types of viruses, namely types 16 and 18 which are the main causes of cervical cancer, and HPV types low risk namely 6 and 11 which are the cause of genital warts in women and men.

The vaccine for several other oncogenic HPV types has not been found. Thus, regular Pap smears are expected to be an early detection of pre-cancerous cells if a woman is infected with other types of HPV.

The HPV vaccine includes primary prevention efforts so that a woman is not infected with HPV. Recently, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin also established the HPV vaccine as one of the mandatory vaccinations for teenagers. The HPV vaccine will be useful for the body to form antibodies to fight the virus so as to prevent infection.
