The Houthis said their weapons were not damaged in the US and British attacks – 2024-02-22 05:31:28

/ world today news/ The missile arsenal and other weapons of the Houthis were not damaged after the US and UK strikes on targets in Yemen, commented Mohammed Ali al-Buhaiti, a member of the Politburo of the “Ansar Allah” movement.

“I cannot have information about what the American targets were, but no damage was done to our missiles and weapons. I attribute this to the fact that they are located in well-protected places that are difficult to destroy,” the agency’s interlocutor said.

According to him, in response to the aggression, the Yemeni Houthis will attack the maritime shipping associated with these countries. Al Buhaiti suggests that the motives behind the airstrikes by Washington and London over Yemen lie in the electoral needs of US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

According to Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder, the United States, according to initial assessments, achieved “good effect” as a result of strikes against Houthi targets.

Deterioration of the situation in the Red Sea

In mid-November, the Ansar Allah (Houthis) Shiite militia that rules northern Yemen threatened to attack all Israeli-linked ships in the Red Sea in a show of support for the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and called on other countries to withdraw their crews from them.

In particular, on November 19, the Houthis captured the tanker “Galaxy Leader” with 22 crew members, 17 of whom were Filipinos. Ansar Allah said the vessel was Bahamian-flagged and operated by a Japanese company, but owned by a prominent Israeli businessman who supplies cars to the Jewish state. The Houthis also attacked several other ships with drones.

After the actions of the Yemeni fighters, some shipping companies decided to stop deliveries through the Suez Canal, and the energy companies “British Petroleum” and “Ekinor” stopped tanker deliveries of petroleum products through the Red Sea.

The United States, in turn, announced a joint operation with ten other countries to protect shipping in the Red Sea. In response, “Ansar Allah” threatened that it reserves the right to attack the ships of the countries participating in this coalition. There have been several clashes between the Houthis and the US military in the Red Sea.

On Friday evening, the US and Britain launched an operation against the Ansar Allah movement, launching airstrikes against targets in four provinces of Yemen. President Joe Biden called the incident a response to the threat to freedom of navigation, but did not rule out further military action.

As the Air Force Commander of the US Central Command, Alex Grinkiewicz, specified, the US Air Force attacked more than 60 targets using more than 100 units of high-precision guided munitions of various types.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saria said the US and Britain had carried out 73 strikes on the capital Sanaa and the provinces of Hodeidah, Taiz, Hajjah and Saada. Five fighters of the movement were killed in the attack and another six wounded.

The Houthis said they were retaliating against US and British military bases and facilities, and also claimed that a missile attack sank a US warship in the Red Sea.

At the same time, Huzam al-Assad, a member of the Politburo of the Ansar Allah movement, added that the Houthis will respond to the actions of London and Washington, who “will regret their aggression.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry called the US strikes on Yemen another example of the distortion of UN Security Council resolutions. As noted by the department, the attack shows that the United States completely disregards international law in order to escalate the situation in the region. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow condemned the strikes on Yemen. He emphasized that the actions of the United States and Great Britain do not comply with international law.
