The housing crisis will not be solved by politics, think most people in Brabant

Most people in Brabant have little or no trust in politicians when it comes to solving housing problems. They have a clear opinion on possible solutions, according to Newcom research commissioned by Omroep Brabant. For example, there is little enthusiasm for new houses in the countryside.

Newcom polled 947 Brabant people of different ages, backgrounds and from all parts of the province about the housing crisis. Trust in government is low, it seems.

Especially the elderly
Two out of three Brabanders surveyed indicate that they have little or even very little trust in politicians when it comes to solving housing problems. But 13 percent are confident, the rest have no opinion.

Looking at the age of the respondents, it is surprising that especially people over 50 have low confidence. The group that trusts politics is much younger. Remarkable: In the cities of Eindhoven, Tilburg, Breda and Den Bosch, trust is slightly higher than elsewhere in the province.

Tiny houses
But how would the inhabitants of Brabant solve the problems? Respondents are clear on this. For 8 out of 10 Brabant residents, the solution to housing problems lies in converting empty office buildings into homes. Buildings on the edge of municipalities and investments in alternative housing forms (tiny houses, flex homes) are also mentioned.

There is much less enthusiasm for building in the green countryside. Just over a third of the population of Brabant see this as a possibility. This number is somewhat higher among residents of South-East Brabant, where 40% like to build green.
