The Ibero-American Theater Festival of Cádiz (FIT) proposes this Thursday several functions of great social value that will analyze the question of gender, social abandonment, gentrification or migration, among other topics.
For the first of them, the FIT opens a new location, the vault attached to the Lithographic Workshop Museum, located in the surroundings of the House of the Child Jesus, which adds to its usual locations; a space located in the heart of the city and that, more and more, is the protagonist in cultural events in the city of Cadiz. In this setting, at 5:30 p.m., the piece will take place The only thing a great actress needs is a great play and the desire to succeed, from the Mexican company Vaca 35.
Directed by Damien Cervantes, which has taught a theatrical laboratory from Tuesday 19 to Monday 25 October, this collective creation, from The Maids by Genet, presents a crude and stark interpretation by the two actresses (Diana Magallón and Mari Carmen Ruiz), an aesthetic that could be reminiscent of Ripstein’s films and a particular treatment of space (intentionally non-theatrical and where the viewer inevitably remains included). Released nine years ago, it continues to tour the world after having passed through fifteen countries, on three continents, garnering awards and applause. The proposal explores and raises, among other debates, that of social abandonment and the schemes of female beauty, body expressiveness, stereotypes of presence in the theater and our attitude towards genders.
A little later, at 8:30 p.m., at the Tía Norica Puppet Theater you can enjoy the piece You’ll love, from the Chilean company Bonobo. Directed by Pablo Manzi and Andreina Olivari, in the play a group of Chilean doctors refines the last details of their presentation at an international convention on prejudice in medicine. An issue in itself relevant but more pertinent than ever after the arrival and settlement of aliens on Earth … From this situation and with this pretext, questions about otherness and the construction of the enemy unfold in the background.
For the third and last day, the public will also be able to enjoy the second installment of The living maps, from El Solar Agency – Object Detectives. Under the title Live Map 2. The Force of the Common, the performance will take place at 5:30 pm, at the Baluarte de la Candelaria.
For its part, the Chilean collective Lastesis convenes a workshop-laboratory, with free access upon registration, for the creation of the work / action Resistencia or the claim of a collective right, a collaborative staging and collective performance that seeks the participation of a group of around 80 women or LGBTQIA + dissidents. This workshop will take place this Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and tomorrow Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., at the Municipal Center of Flamenco Art La Merced.
